Mercedes Sprinter Key Replacement in Staffordshire

  • Sprinter key programming and fob repair on site, with no tow truck.
  • No call-out fee and a 30-minute average response across Staffordshire.

Ben is DBS checked, holds ยฃ5 million public liability insurance and is SERMI approved, and every price is confirmed before he travels.

Sprinter Key Prices in 2026

How Much Does a Mercedes Sprinter Key Replacement Cost?

A Mercedes Sprinter key replacement in 2026 starts from ยฃ170 when one working key is left, and from ยฃ325 when every key has been lost, with the generation and the key type setting the exact figure. Ben gives a fixed price for your van before he travels, and there is no call-out fee.

The price of a Sprinter key depends on four things.

  • A working key or none. A working key lets the immobiliser data be read straight away. With no key, the password has to be calculated first, which takes more time and equipment.
  • The van generation. A W906 uses the FBS3 system in the EIS, while the newer W907 uses FBS4, and FBS4 keys come from a Mercedes dealer.
  • EIS on the van or removed. Most jobs are done with the EIS left in the van. In rare cases the ignition has to come out, which adds time.
  • Time of day. A job booked during normal hours costs less than an urgent call late at night.

Mercedes car keys are priced the same way across the range, because the W906 Sprinter shares its FBS3 system with the C-Class and E-Class of the same years. Ben programmes Mercedes car keys for cars and vans on the same fixed price terms.

A main dealer needs the van recovered to the workshop and a key ordered, which usually means days without the van on top of the dealer price. On a Sprinter that is ten years old or more, a mobile job at the van is the quicker and cheaper route.

Keys Lost on a Job

What to Do First If Your Sprinter Keys Are Lost on a Job

Five quick steps get a locksmith to the van with everything needed to make the key in one visit.

1
Search once more. Check the cab, the site and your work clothes.
2
Ask around. Anyone else who drives the van may hold a key.
3
Secure the tools. Lock them away if the van cannot be locked.
4
Call or WhatsApp Ben. Give the registration and the exact place of the van, whether that is a site, a yard or a street.
5
Get the paperwork and keys ready. Have the V5C and photo ID in the same name, and keep any old or broken key, because keys that are not there when the new key is programmed may stop working.

How the Longton Sprinter Key Was Replaced in 5 Steps

2016 Mercedes SprinterAll keys lostLongton, ST3About 1.5 hoursNo tow truck

A tradesman lost every key to his 2016 Mercedes Sprinter while he was working on site in Longton. Replacing the key with no working key took five steps, all carried out at the van.

1
Confirm ownership. Proof of ownership is checked before any key is programmed, with the V5C log book and photo ID.
2
Identify the van. The registration confirms the Sprinter generation and the key it uses, which on a 2016 van is the W906 with an EIS ignition.
3
Calculate the password. AUTEL equipment is wired into the van to read the immobiliser data and calculate the password the EIS needs before it will accept a new key.
4
Programme and cut the key. The new Mercedes key is written in the AUTEL programmer, learned to the van and cut to the door and ignition locks.
5
Test and hand over. The key is tested for starting, locking and unlocking before the van is handed back, and the tradesman drove away the same day.

The password is the reason all keys lost needs the extra step. With no working key, the EIS has nothing to copy from, so the immobiliser data is read and the password calculated, which then lets a blank key be programmed to the van.

Sprinter Generations and Key Systems

Which Key System Does a Mercedes Sprinter Use?

A 2016 Mercedes Sprinter is a second generation W906 van, and its key is a remote key that slots into the EIS, the electronic ignition switch that holds the van's FBS3 immobiliser data. The Sprinter has used three key systems across its three generations, and the generation decides how a lost key is replaced.

GenerationModel codeYearsKey and ignitionWhat all keys lost needs
FirstW901 to W905 (T1N)1995 to 2006Bladed key with a transponder chipA new transponder key cut and coded to the immobiliser
SecondW906 (NCV3)2006 to 2018Remote key in the EIS, FBS3 immobiliserThe EIS password calculated, then a new key programmed and cut
ThirdW907 and W9102018 onwardsFBS4 immobiliser and key systemKeys from a Mercedes dealer only

Third generation, W907 and W910

In 2026 every W906 on the road is between eight and twenty years old, and it is still the Sprinter most often called in, which is why the Longton job followed the EIS route above. The same FBS3 system was fitted to the W204 C-Class and the W212 E-Class of the same years.

Spare Key or All Keys Lost

Why All Keys Lost Takes Longer Than a Spare Sprinter Key

๐Ÿ”
A spare Sprinter key is quicker because a working key lets the equipment read the immobiliser data straight away, while all keys lost means the password has to be calculated first.
Spare key, one working key present

That gap in time and price is the strongest reason to keep a spare. Paperwork, worn keys, keys bought online and newer vans also change what happens on the day, and those are covered next.

Beyond the Key Itself

What Else Should Sprinter Owners Know About Their Van Keys?

Most Sprinter key calls come down to the same few questions about paperwork, worn keys, keys bought online, spares, newer vans and local cover. AutoVault works as a commercial auto locksmith for trades and fleets, and vans, fleets and pickups are all covered by the commercial auto locksmith service, on site and with no call-out fee, so the answers below apply to any van on a job.

๐Ÿ“„

What If the V5C Is Lost as Well?

Replace it straight away, because proof of ownership is checked before any key is programmed. You can apply for a replacement V5C on GOV.UK, and mention it when you call so Ben can confirm what he needs to see on the day.

๐Ÿ”‹

Why Has My Sprinter Key Stopped Working?

A ten year old Sprinter key has been pressed, dropped and carried on site for a decade, so most failures in 2026 come from wear. If the remote does not lock the van but the engine starts, your battery or a button has failed, and a key fob repair usually puts it right for far less than a new key. If the key goes in but the van will not start, your key has lost its link to the EIS and needs programming again. If the key will not turn at all, the EIS or the steering lock needs diagnosing before any key is made.

๐Ÿ›’

Can a Sprinter Key Bought Online Be Programmed to Your Van?

Not as it arrives, because a used Mercedes key is locked to the van it was first programmed to. A used key has to be renewed before it can be learned to another EIS, and cheap new keys vary in quality, with some failing to programme or failing a few months later. Send Ben the listing before you pay for it.

๐Ÿ”‘

Is a Spare Sprinter Key Worth Having Before One Is Lost?

Yes, because a spare Sprinter key costs about half the price of an all keys lost job and keeps the van working if one key goes missing. Having a second car key cut and programmed while one still works is the cheapest way to avoid a day off the road. Keep the spare at home or at the yard, not in the van.

๐Ÿš

Does a Newer W907 Sprinter Use the Same Key System?

No, the newer Sprinter uses a different key system from the W906. The third generation Sprinter, coded W907 and W910, went on sale in 2018 and replaced the W906. It uses the FBS4 system, which cannot yet be programmed properly outside a Mercedes dealer, so AutoVault does not supply W907 or W910 keys, and Ben confirms the van by its registration before he travels.

AutoVault came to produce a spare key for my vehicle and programme a lost one out of the system. The service was exceptional and communication was excellent throughout. I was called before arrival (on time) and he did a stellar job. My vehicle posed several issues with the programming process and he went above and beyond to resolve this for me, perservering and having to come back the next day after some additional time and work was needed to complete the job which he did successfully. Extremely knowledgeable and professional, and a top guy! I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I will definitely use again in future.

I have a courtesy car and the key fob stopped working. The garage were shut for the whole weekend and I needed the use of a car. Ben was amazing and went over and beyond. He was very patient with me trying to identify where the emergency override was. . He then offered to come out and he arrived within 15 minutes. Bizarrely the key fob started to work as he pulled up. He still checked the fobs battery for me and showed me where the override on the car was. He refused to charge me the agreed call out charge. In fact he refused to charge me at all. If I could have given him 10 stars I would .Very knowledgeable and a gentleman. If you ever get locked out of your car definitely give Ben a call

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2016 Sprinter in Longton took about 1.5 hours from start to finish, with the new key cut, programmed and tested at the van. Every all keys lost job starts the same way, with the immobiliser password calculated before the new key is made.

Yes. The key is cut and programmed at the van, wherever it is parked, so there is no tow truck, no recovery and no wait for a dealer to order a key.

Yes. Proof of ownership is checked before any key is programmed, and the V5C log book with matching photo ID is the usual way to show it.

No, not once it has been disabled. A lost key can be removed from the van's records when the new key is programmed, so a lost key that turns up later will not start the engine.

Only after it has been checked. A used Mercedes key is locked to the van it came from and has to be renewed first, and a cheap new key can fail to programme, so send Ben the listing before you buy.

Yes. A spare key can be programmed on site for the W639 Vito built up to 2014, and the newer Mercedes W447 Vito uses FBS4, so the Mercedes W447 gets EIS repair at the van instead of key programming.
