Four Generations of Mercedes Immobiliser Security
Mercedes-Benz has used its own FBS (Fahrberechtigungssystem) immobiliser architecture across four successive generations — FBS1 and FBS2 on older models, FBS3 widely used through the 2000s and 2010s across models like the W204 C-Class and W212 E-Class, and FBS4 on current-generation vehicles with significantly increased security. The physical module housing whichever FBS generation is fitted is called the EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch) or EZS (Elektronisches Zündschloss) depending on which term is used.

FBS1 to FBS4 Explained
